HELLO FALL!
Welcome back subscribers and Welcome to the RED LETTER DAY BOX to our new friends. I am so excited to get this box completed for you. It all shipped out last week, so it should be arriving soon. Watch your mail box for it and please let me know if there are any hang ups that need correcting.
As you will see, the colors in this month box are fabulous! I wanted to convey the change of the season in this color palette - I hope that comes across - the blue skies and nature's greens and browns that change into the reds, oranges, and golds of a fall in full bloom! It's not really a bloom is it. More like a beautiful transition, a cleansing if you will. Either way, I do love the beautiful the shades of Autumn.
I'm still waiting for crisp Fall air and chilly breezes. I know some of you are still enjoying the warm sunshine of summer - so hopefully this bunting eases the transition for you as you anticipate cooler days. I have seen here some red and orange leaves on my walks with Bama. I drove past a tree that was still very green and full of leaves, with a few clusters of red leaves mixed in - so it is coming - and now you are ready to greet it.
Some of you may have picked up on the fact that the bunting you received has the letters centered, not to the side like you see here. I was trying something different and everyone I showed this to, told me to keep things centered. So I did. Except for this one that I accidentally used for all the photos!
So, displaying your September RED LETTER DAY BOX . . . I admit I did not get really creative here. I just love having the colors in the room that I didn't even attempt to put them outside on the door - but you definitely can! If you do - send me a picture, I'd love to see what you do. As always, I'd love to see how you display your boxes each month, so send me pictures, lots of pictures.
All of these pictures were taken in my son's house with the help of my daughter-in-law. She too liked the idea of having these colors inside to cheer things up a bit. We have the one photo in the kitchen on the counter when you walk in from outside. It could very easily swing back to hang below the raw edge shelf there and add to the kitchen more.
Then we moved our display into the living room with the big windows that fill the space with so much beautiful natural light. This is the room where, over the summer, we watched a blue jay build her nest and hatch her eggs. We had front row seats for all the feedings and eventually the departures of each baby bird. Back to the display - we put it here on the console and in front of the mirror to add a powerful punch of color that only complimented the view out the windows.
Lastly, we hung the display in the pantry area - on this beautiful walnut countertop. The tones here added to the warmth of the color of the wood and gave this space a bit of fun and whimsy. In each display, I twisted and draped the ribbons across. This is pretty much the standard way to do things. But you could certainly cut your ribbons in half and drape them through your posts on each side.
One more thing before I go. You each received a different Fall leaf cookie cutter. I attached a gold ribbon to each one hoping you can find a sweet place to hang yours from the ribbon. I also hope you would use it as well, as baking sugar cookies this time of year is my favorite! I use the basic Betty Crocker Cookbook recipe, the old red book/binder I received as a wedding gift more than 35 years ago - it is my favorite recipe. I have used it every year making sugar cookies for my kids, family and neighbors. I have used that page so much I have it now in a protective sleeve so I can find it easily and not worry about damaging it more! I have it pretty much memorized so if you like thin, crisp sugar cookies that snap when you break them - let me know - I'll send you the recipe! Oh it has a special ingredient that makes them taste so delicious.
